The Lucky Pioneer is 474 pages and includes 134 illustrations and 63 journal entries written by Charles "Lucky" Harrington during his trek across the country in the mid-1840s. He wrote details of his adventures and made sketches in his journal of the crazy characters, wild animals and Native Americans he met along the way. Later in life he looks back at his journal and elaborates on the dangers, the excitement, the uncertainty and the love he found with a certain young native girl named Mika.
